From the recording Within the Shimmering Darkness
My Escape is a surrealistic, summer requiem inspired by Canadian poet, Alden Nowlan’s I, Icarus. It’s all about escape: escape from a heatwave, escape from suffocating city life and ultimately, escape from the loneliness of a broken heart.

Lyrics
City summer, not for me
Hot apartment, no AC
Buses late, boss enraged
Concrete forest, living caged
Head’s been spinning since you left
The heat, the cutting words you said
A storm when you’re here
But I hate that you’re gone
Each night alone wakes a grey, bleak dawn
Lucy’s diner, stay away
Our old friends, what do they say
Bitter letters, never sent
Whiskey bottle- my night friend
I scream so loud my window breaks
Above the clouds to my escape
I scream so loud my window breaks
Above the clouds to my escape
But if you’d see me
And like a cool breeze
You’d wipe this city clean off of me
Off of me
Come back to me, my heart it breaks
I need you now, be my escape
Come back to me, my heart it breaks
I need you now, be my escape
Come back to me, my heart it breaks
I need you now, be my escape
Come back to me, my heart it breaks
I need you now, be my escape
My escape
