Bio
Shannon Roszell,
the Folk Rock Enchantress,
is a singer-songwriter from the Kawartha Lakes region, northeast of Toronto. Her music is a striking fusion of symphonic indie rock, intertwining orchestral arrangements with electrifying guitar riffs and evocative vocals. Critics and fans alike have drawn comparisons between Roszell’s melodic freedom and lyrical depth to the legendary Joni Mitchell.
“Shannon Roszell has been turning heads with her powerful and distinctive voice that elicits memories of the late, great Cranberries frontwoman, Dolores O’Riordan. And like the Cranberries, Roszell’s music offers an expansive spin on rock and roll.”-Canadian Musician Magazine
Her debut album, Within the Shimmering Darkness (November 15, 2024), is a testament to her ability to craft immersive soundscapes. Produced by Frank Gryner (A Perfect Circle, Rob Zombie, Trent Severn, Emm Gryner), the album's standout single, Kiss Like You Mean It, is a playful, flirtatious fan-favourite that showcases Roszell’s lighter side.
"Shannon’s concert was nothing short of mesmerizing. Ethereal, beautiful, and powerful in the most soul-activating way… it felt like being swept into a spell of sound and truth. Her consistent presence, voice, and lyrics touched something deep within me.”-Areege MacGowan, fan
Roszell’s journey into music is one of reinvention. After walking away from a PhD program and moving to a new city for love, she found herself untethered—no job, no close friends, no clear direction. Yet in that space of uncertainty, possibility cracked wide open. When a close friend invited her to sing at his wedding, it became the moment that shifted the course of her life. She threw herself into music, teaching herself guitar, singing for hours a day, and taking that raw, untested passion into the public sphere, performing wherever she could. What began as an uncertain leap in 2013 soon became a calling she could never ignore. Within six months, she was playing professionally across Vancouver and writing music that has stood the test of time—now released on her album. Shannon hopes her performances inspire audiences to be bold in their own lives and to show up in ways that surprise even themselves.
Earshot-Distro recognized her as Artist of the Week, noting, “Combining airy, even partially experimental backing with passionate vocals, the alt-rock singer-songwriter makes a strong and enduring impression.”
Beyond her musical artistry, Roszell is a passionate environmental advocate, supporting organizations like Music Declares Emergency and Ecojustice, Canada’s largest environmental law charity. Her 2021 single, Gonna Love You, is a post-apocalyptic love letter to a wounded Earth. “It’s about the constancy of love set against the backdrop of environmental decline.”
While raising her daughter, playing live, and crafting her sophomore album, Roszell continues to carve out her place in the folk-rock scene. To stay connected with the latest from the Folk Rock Enchantress, sign up for her mailing list.
